Following the commencement of discussions at the UN on Wednesday Diane Abbott said:“Whilst it is disappointing that a peace agreement currently seems to remain a long way off I welcome the opening of the vital discussions of what can be done to facilitate the movement of humanitarian aid into and within Syria. The moral imperative for the UK accept refugees fleeing the conflict has gained added weight following the publication of the photos on Tuesday of the mass execution that are being carried out in Syria and it is encouraging to see the growing political consensus in support of offering Syrian citizens safe haven within Britain.”
