It is time for a debate about whether face-down restraint has a place in the 21st century NHS
19 Jun 2013
Diane Abbott MP, Labour shadow public health minister, responds to Mind’s call for end to life-threatening face down restraint in mental health hospitals: “Ministers should reflect seriously on this survey and take urgent action to improve the standard of services and quality of care for people receiving emergency treatment for mental health.
“It is time for a debate about whether face-down restraint has a place in the 21st century NHS.”
“Labour is committed to giving mental health parity of esteem in the NHS. That’s why Labour has already set out measures to ensure all professional staff working in the NHS receive training in mental health.”
