We have a patient care emergency in London
30 May 2013
Diane Abbott MP, Labour’s shadow public health minister, warns of patient care emergency in London over 111 disaster and A&E crisis: ‘This will be distressing to people across London because it’s a crisis of the government’s own making. It’s clear that Londoners are paying the price of this government’s disastrous introduction of the 111 line, and the mismanagement of our NHS. What’s often happening is that because people are not able to get through, they are giving up and self-referring to A&E.
‘Desperate patients in London, unable to get the advice they need, are left with no option but to turn to A&E - waiting lists are growing with patients who really don't need to be there, leaving all patients waiting longer.
‘Decisive action is needed so that patients in London - and health professionals - are reassured about the effectiveness and ability of NHS 111 to deliver the service.’
