Diane Abbott MP attacks government over nurses’ patient care concerns.
30 Oct 2012
One in three nurses believes the quality of patient care has declined in the last year, research by Unisonsuggests.
Dwindling staff numbers, unreasonable workloads, stress levels and service cuts are the greatest barriers to providing the highest quality of patient care, according to a poll of 3,000 nurses.
Diane Abbott, Labour’s Shadow Public Health Minister, said:
‘This is a damning indictment of this government. We’re increasingly seeing the cost to patient care of
this government’s NHS disaster. This government has thrown the NHS into chaos with an expensive, unwanted ideological reorganisation, cut the NHS budget being in real terms, and has given over 6,500 nurses, midwives and health visiting staff their P45s since they took power. The strain being put on
patient care by this government is unbearable. This wasn’t what many people across the country were expecting when they voted for this government. ’
