The government's policy on nurseries means the return of the 'milk snatcher'

20 Jun 2012
Shadow Public Health minister Diane Abbott has branded the government’s nursery milk scheme moves as the return of the 'milk snatchers’.

Shadow public health minister says government moves on nursery milk may prove to be ‘window dressing for cruel cuts at the expense of children’s health.’

‘There is real concern that this is window dressing for cruel cuts at the expense of children’s health. The government claims the current scheme is too expensive, but David Cameron and Andrew Lansley may well make this scheme so complicated there is a real risk that nurseries will not take this up any more. Trying to cut the cost of this scheme may end up snatching milk away from the country’s children, disproportionately affecting the poorest.

‘In a recession, which has been made in Downing Street, when there is a squeeze on families, it is the wrong time for risks with our childen’s health.’
