Diane talks to BBC about proliferation of betting shops

07 Dec 2010

Diane appeared last night on BBC One Inside Out program talking about the proliferation of betting shops in Hackney.

Diane, who has long campaigned against several bookmakers opening in the same street, spoke about the problems caused for residents and how other shops are often deterred from opening the area.

Diane has called for a change in the law to make it easier for local councils to turn down planning applications from bookmakers if they believe there are too many in one area.

Hackney has three times the average number of betting shops with nine in Mare Street alone.
