Diane angry over Coalition decision to prolong detention of children
Diane has accused the Coalition of breaking promises after it was announced this week that it would continue to detain children until at least March next year.
Diane says assurances were given by the Lib Dems in July that it would close family wings in centres such as Yarl’s Wood but on Monday the Home Office announced they would not actually stop detaining children until March 2011.
Diane said:
“Nick Clegg openly said in July that he believed detaining children was a ‘moral outrage’ and would close family wards, but it seems his Conservative colleagues at the Home Office are happy for detention of young innocents to continue until March next year.
This is just another broken promise from the Coalition which proves once again that the Lib Dems truly are the junior partner in this Coalition.
Detaining children is wrong and it is time the Conservatives stopped breaking promises, listened to the Lib Dems and did the right thing by children and the electorate sooner rather than later.”
