Diane congratulates CLR James campaigners over rename triumph
Diane has congratulated campaigners after they managed to get Hackney Council to reconsider plans to rename the CLR library in Dalston.
The library will now retain the name of the Trinidadian journalist, essayist and writer, CLR James, after whom the original library in Dalston Lane was named.
Diane, who supported the campaigners, said she believed scrapping the name would have been an insult to his memory.
Diane said:
“I am pleased that Hackney Council has finally taken heed of the hundreds of people who signed petitions, wrote letters, and protested to ensure CLR James was given the respect he deserved.
This victory is a triumph, and I congratulate all involved. I look forward to visiting the new CLR James library when it opens next Spring.”
