Diane condemns the demonisation of Muslims in the media
Diane says negative coverage of Muslims in the media is stalling efforts to fight terrorism and crime by increasing Islamophobia among the British public.
She spoke in the House yesterday to remind fellow MPs that those who support Islam are not themselves a threat, and it is
dangerous to tar the entire Muslim community with the same brush.
It is part of a long running campaign by Diane against the demonisation of Muslims in the media.
Diane has also tabled an EDM on the subject which has attracted support from 66 MPs across the political spectrum.
Diane said:
“I am opposed to all terrorism. But I am very worried by the tendency to smear all Muslims with the idea that some how being a Muslim makes you a potential terrorist. I have thousands of Muslims in my constituency and they are all law abiding citizens who make an important contribution to society. I have always been willing to stand up for them, and will continue to do so.”
