Diane gets Royal seal of approval at Hackney Carers event

04 Feb 2010

Diane was among guests introduced to Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal in Dalston today at the official opening of a new carers centre.

City and Hackney Carers invited the Royal visitor to unveil a plaque on their new premises in Tyssen Street.

Princess Anne, who formed The Princess Royal Trust for Carers in 1991, toured the building and spoke to 50 carers and volunteers all of whom rely on the centre for advise, support and social outings.

The centre, which had its funding cut by half by Hackney Council in August, hopes the new building will still enable it to provide a good service.

Her Royal Highness commended the centre and the volunteers for their hard work. She said: “The success that they’ve (City and Hackney Carers Trust) had has been irrespective of where it’s been based, but this centre is really nice”

Diane said: “We can’t do enough as politicians and a society to flag up the work that carers do. I do hope the council can consider facilitating more financial support for the centre.”
