Diane demands London kids in severe poverty are not left behind
Diane says more to be done to help London youngsters after figures show 1.5 million are still living in severe poverty.
More than 300,000 children live in severe poverty in London and half of them come from single parent families or families on job seekers allowance. Figures also show ethic minority children are three times more likely to be in severe poverty than white children.
Save the Children fears figures will numbers will only grow as unemployment increases, despite government efforts to end child poverty by 2020.
Diane said:
“These figures show that our attempts as a government to end child poverty are not enough to stop the problem. We need to make sure no elements of society, whether they be ethnic minorities or families with single parents are left behind and further marginalised. We are failing countless future generations unless we can give all children the chance of an equal start in life.”
