MP Concern Over Rising Gang Violence
Hackney North and Stoke Newington MP Diane Abbott today expressed her concern over the rising gang violence between members of the Turkish Kurdish community in North London.
Two rival gangs – the Bombacilar and the Tottenham Boys are thought to have been responsible for 11 major shootings since August. It is believed by police that the violence is related to the stronghold both gangs have over the heroin trade.
Commenting today Diane said:
“I am appalled by the escalating violence and realise that many of my constituents are frightened by the gang presence in their neighbourhood. On the local level I will be working with Hackney police – who are taking this problem very seriously – and local community members to work out what we can do. But internationally it is more important than ever that Afghanistan is stabilised and the drugs trade stopped.”
