Castle Climbing Centre Leads the Way with Environmental Awards
Hackney North and Stoke Newington MP Diane Abbott joined in the environmental awards at the famous Castle Climbing Centre in Stoke Newington on Monday.
The awards were set up by Steve Taylor, CEO of the Castle Climbing Centre, to encourage good environmental practices amongst staff and the local community. The Centre is giving out £29,000 to its winners – a variety of differing projects all with the aim of taking action against climate change and its effects.
In all seven projects were given grants to set up, or continue their work. Projects range from sustainable farming in India, to bee-keeping in North Wales and the Growing Communities local social enterprise in Stoke Newington.
Speaking after the awards, Diane said:
”I was thrilled to take part in the awards today. It was really interesting to hear about the vast array of work taking place by customers, staff and friends of the climbing centre. I am particularly impressed by the Castle Climbing Centre for its dedication to tackling climate change. Not only have they taken the ambitious pledge to be carbon neutral, water neutral and have zero waste by 2015, they are also generously giving £29,000 to the best environmental projects coming from the local area.”
