Diane Abbott Calls on Foreign Secretary to Support Camp Ashraf Protester

14 Sep 2009

Today Hackney North and Stoke Newington MP came out in support of constituent Khalil Abadi who is currently on a hunger strike protest outside the US Embassy in London over the treatment of refugees in Iraq.

Four of Mr Abadi’s siblings are living in Camp Ashraf in Iraq with thousands of other refugees. There are reports of serious misconduct by the Iraqi forces in the camp, including abductions, beatings and the intimidation of men and women living there.

Speaking today Diane said:

“I have written to the Foreign Secretary asking him to look into this as a matter of urgency. My constituent Mr Abadi would like to know that the UK Government has condemned the attacks on Camp Ashraf and that they are willing to work with the UN and the US Government to make the camp a place of safety for those living there.”
