Irish Women's Euro Case
Diane Abbott MP today expressed her support for three women who have taken a case against the Irish state to the European Court of Human Rights. Each of the women was forced to travel outside of Ireland to have an abortion because the procedure is mostly still illegal in Ireland.
The women are arguing that they are victims of human rights violations on four counts, including the protection from degrading or inhuman treatment and freedom from discrimination.
The European Court is soon expected to make a decision on whether the case can be admitted.
Speaking today Diane said:
“I am glad to hear things are moving forward with this case. I wholeheartedly support these brave women who have stood up and challenged the restriction on their rights. I hope that this case will go ahead and draw attention to this glaring inequality.”
