Tragic Death of Baby P
London MP Diane Abbott today called for the resignation of the director of Haringey’s Children and Young People’s Services in the House of Commons.
During questions to the Department of Children, Schools and Families Ms Abbott said the director should step down from her position in Haringey.
Speaking this evening she said:
“I think it is ludicrous that BBC bosses resign as soon as there is any trouble in their department. This is a shocking case that comes directly under the responsibility of the director of Children and Young People’s Services. As such she should accept overall responsibility for what has taken place and step down.”
Haringey Council came under fire last week after it emerged “Baby P”, a young child under the care of Social Services, died after sustained abuse at the hands of his mother, her boyfriend and their lodger.
