Abbott Rejects Bush Torture Comments
The President referred to the London bombings in a rare interview with the BBC published today. He claimed that techniques which are usually categorised as torture, such as waterboarding, were acceptable in the face of terrorist threats. He went on to mention that families of the London bombing victims would understand that.
Refuting these comments Diane said today:
“President Bush’s comments are astounding in their hypocrisy. He claims to stand for democracy and human rights when time and time again his administration have been responsible for the flagrant disregard of both of these concepts.
I think you would be hard-pressed to find Londoners who would support the use of torture in any circumstances. I certainly know my constituents wouldn’t. What people in this country want to see is the collection of hard evidence and terrorists brought to justice by legal means.”
