Refugee Teachers' Event

02 May 2008

The Hackney North and Stoke Newington MP is backing the Employability Forum’s drive to get schools to recognise the unique qualities that refugee teachers can bring. Speaking today Diane said:

“I have been calling for an increase in ethnic minority teachers in London for a long time. With more and more of our pupils coming from refugee families or ethnic minority backgrounds it is vital that our teaching force reflects the student population. Refugees have invariably got a wealth of life experience behind them; they have some very important lessons to teach our young people.”

The Employability Forum, an independent organisation that promotes the employment of refugees and the integration of migrant workers in the UK, is holding an event as part of the Government’s “Opening Doors for Refugee Teachers” network. The event will be held at Millfields Primary School from 4 – 5.30 on the 21st May and aims to celebrate the skills and assets refugee teachers bring to schools.
