MTV DJ to speak at Black education conference

The conference is organised by Diane Abbott, MP for Hackney North and Stoke Newington, supported by the Mayor of London, Ken Livingstone. The conference focuses on black children and educational underachievement. Over 2000 are expected to attend.

Diane Abbott today said: “I am absolutely thrilled that Trevor has gareed to speak at the conference. I know how busy his schedule is so making time to speak at mmy event shows his real commitment to the issue.” Diane added: “Trevor is a Hackney boy who is one of our most successful music industry personalities  but he wants t be part of making a differe=nce to our young people..

  • Organised by Diane Abbott MP with support from the Mayor of London, one of the key issues of the free conference remains the need to recruit more black teachers and deliver an education system that is reflective of London's diversity. The conference focuses on inequalities in educational attainment by children of African and Caribbean heritage. The 2006 theme will focus on ensuring London's children are equipped with the skills to take advantage of future opportunities. Speakers include Diane Abbott, Mayor Ken Livingstone, DJ Trevor Nelson and Tim Campbell.
