Tories’ cuts to police funding are having serious consequences

15 Jan 2019
Diane Abbott MP, Labour’s Shadow Home Secretary, responding to news that Scotland Yard’s murder investigation unit has lost a quarter of its officers and staff over the past decade, said:

“The Tories’ cuts to police funding are having serious consequences at a time when recorded violent crime is increasing.

“Over 21,000 police officers have been lost since 2010, with nearly 3,000 taken off the streets of London, while a quarter of all the Government’s cuts to funding have fallen on the Met.

“Clearly this is having a serious impact on policing and their ability to keep the public safe.”
