Diane Abbott responds to Prevent programme statistics

Diane Abbott MP, Labour’s Shadow Home Secretary, responding to statistics released regarding the Prevent Programme, said:

“Once again serious issues have been raised about the operation of Prevent. Literally, thousands of people are being referred to the programme but the overwhelming majority do not require any anti-terrorism procedures at all.

“Prevent is alienating communities and not effectively addressing terrorism. Labour in government will undertake a thorough review of the programme.”
