Caroline Nokes is unable to provide satisfactory answers to the most basic questions about the Government’s immigration policy – Abbott

05 Nov 2018
Diane Abbott MP, Labour’s Shadow Home Secretary, responding to Immigration Minister Caroline Nokes stating in the House of Commons that UK employers will not need to carry out checks on EU citizens in the event of a no-deal Brexit, directly contradicting what she told Parliament last week, said:

“Today we have seen a Minister who is supposedly responsible for immigration unable to provide satisfactory answers to the most basic questions about the Government’s immigration policy.

“The Minister directly contradicted what she herself told Parliament last week, proving beyond any reasonable doubt that she not only misled Parliament but also confirmed the chaos and shocking incompetence at the heart of this Government.

“With less than five months until we leave the EU, the Government has still failed to provide any details of its proposed post-Brexit immigration system. This Government is playing games with millions of people’s lives.”
