Home Office wastes taxpayers’ money to fight and lose so many appeals – Diane Abbott

03 Sep 2018
Diane Abbott MP, Labour’s Shadow Home Secretary, commenting on reports that the Home Office has lost 75% of its appeals against immigration rulings, said:

“The vast majority of immigration appeals being lost by the Home Office is a national scandal.

“This figure suggests there is an unfair application of the Home Office’s own rules and that people entitled to be here are being put at risk of deportation. It is also a huge waste of taxpayers’ money to fight and lose so many appeals.

“This is further evidence of the Government’s hostile environment, which is also responsible for the Windrush scandal. The Government should drop this policy entirely. Until it does so, further scandals like this are sure to emerge.”
