Opening at Jewish Housing Association
Funded by Hackney Council the AIHA was set up in 1983 and acquired and developed a house for a 7 bed sheltered scheme – first of its kind for the Orthodox Jewish Community. The scheme has continually expanded and today opens two new wings.
Ms Abbott said: “I support the good and valuable work of the association and am very pleased that they have secured expansion of their housing association to include a mother and baby home - I am sure the extra bedsits will be greatly appreciated. The AIHA was the first of its kind for the orthodox Jewish community and has been very successful.”
Ms Abbott added: “The AIHA has come a long way since its establishment in 1983 and has steadily increased in both size and scope. I hope it continues to provide the orthodox Jewish community in Hackney with the great support it has offered over the last two decades and I congratulate them on their achievement.”
Towards the end of the ceremony Ms Hazel Blears, MP for Salford and Minister of State for Crime Reduction, Policing, Community Safety and Counter Terrorism, will plant a tree.
