Roots and Wing Awards

08 Dec 2008

Diane said: “It was wonderful to see all the children that rose to the occasion and created truly inspiring projects about their heritage.  An understanding of heritage is vital for children to establish a strong sense of identity and community.  It was apparent that the projects the children made had a real impact on their lives.”

Diane added: “Since we are living in an increasingly interconnected world, the need to understand ones legacy is more important than ever.  With people moving and visiting different countries frequently, knowing ones past becomes necessary.  Each of the projects awarded last night had a unique way of describing how knowing ones heritage is important throughout life.”

Diane continued: “I was particularly proud of the children from Hackney primary schools whose project explored the world of archives through role plays.  There project has received wide coverage and is great for the community.  It is important for children to learn about their ‘roots’ so they can grow their own ‘wing’ for the future.”
