Jamaicans in Diaspora
Following a successful Jamaica Diaspora conference held last year in Kingston, Jamaica, June 16th was chosen as a day to be observed each year anywhere in the world where there is a significant presence of Jamaican expatriates.
Diane Abbott said: “The Jamaica Diaspora project is all about ‘celebrating the achievements of Jamaicans both in Jamaica and outside’ I strongly support this initiative by the Jamaican government. Jamaicans living overseas are Jamaica’s secret weapon. We have an enormous amount to contribute, not just in terms of investment but also acting as a lobby for the interests of Jamaica in London, New York and Toronto.”
Diane, who is also the MP for Hackney North and Stoke Newington added: “I also think that second and third generation Jamaicans will benefit positively from more interaction with the country of their fathers.”
