Government must act to resettle unaccompanied minors in the “Jungle” camp in Calais
10 Oct 2016
In light of the imminent demolition of the “Jungle” camp in Calais, Diane Abbott MP, Labour’s Shadow Home Secretary said: “The conditions in Calais are indefensible. I have personally visited the Jungle camp and it is a sorry, shabby and mean embarrassment of a dwelling. Not fit for purpose, not fit for our conscience. “Leading charities believe that there are hundreds of unaccompanied minors that should be immediately resettled in light of the pending demolition.
“So far this government has offered these children nothing but platitudes. It is not above the ability of the Home Office to resettle unaccompanied minors, particularly those that have a family link in the UK.”
