The future of a fully functioning health service will be in jeopardy
11 Jul 2016
Diane Abbott MP, Labour’s Shadow Secretary of State for Health, responding to the King’s Fund report calling for the government to be honest about how its NHS budget-control policies will require staff cuts, said:“The charity King’s Fund have thrown the gauntlet down to this government on how it responds to the NHS funding crisis. This report confirms what we have known to be true for years: The government is perfectly willing to sacrifice NHS services on the false altar of austerity.”
“The Tories came into office with the NHS at breakeven – today it’s a staggering £2.45bn in deficit. This government is using the discredited concept of austerity to lay siege to our health and care sectors, depriving them of the finance they need to support our sick and elderly.”
“With an aging population and the concomitant demands on the NHS, the government must get to grips with the funding crisis, or patients will suffer and the future of a fully functioning health service will be in jeopardy.”
