“Labour has repeatedly warned that Tory cuts have contributed to a rise in crime”

Diane Abbott MP, Labour’s Shadow Home Secretary, responding to comments by the Chairman of the National Police Chiefs’ Council on an extra 20,000 police officers, said:
“Police chiefs are completely right to highlight the demands on police time arising from the crises in areas such as health and social care. One estimate is that 83 per cent of police time is taken up with non-criminal matters.
“Labour has repeatedly warned that Tory cuts have contributed to a rise in crime and prevented police doing their proper job. Labour will take a public health approach to crime, with sustained investment in all these areas.”
