Diane Abbott MP, Labour’s Shadow Home Secretary, responding to accusations MI5 have broken the law by handling bulk surveillance data, said:“Data security is an obligation for us all and MI5 are not above the law.
“This case also highlights the failure of government legislation, which only facilitates more and more public bodies having access to and gathering information. Without proper scrutiny and oversight, the unauthorised handling and retention of data puts all our information at risk and undermines the public’s right to privacy.”
