NHS staffing levels have suffered their biggest drop in 10 years with nursing posts among those cut, according to official figures.
The workforce shrank by nearly 20,000 to just over 1,350,000 last year – a 1.4% drop from 2010 as bosses strive to make £20billion in “efficiency savings”.
The number of nurses fell by 3,411, or 1%.
And it comes as research shows nearly half of them are “burned out” and want to quit, with only their recession-hit Greek counterparts feeling worse.
